Story

This time last year, I was competing in one of TVs most popular programs. Prior to this I have been a volunteer Cook at the Evening Café in the Mission, ironically it was this voluntary work that proved to be the catalyst for my applying to appear on the show. Regrettably from my perspective this was only briefly mentioned in one short introductory sentence, to be fair because of the BBC's concern for my ongoing safety after the show. However I have spent the subsequent year working hard to raise money for the Mission in Huddersfield, cooking for companies, special events and the general public in pop-up restaurants, I haven't taken a single fee or expense with every donation made going to Huddersfield mission. More importantly I have appeared at numerous "an evening with Jim Gardner", where I explain my experiences on MasterChef and hopefully share funny stories from my time. However I am also very keen to talk about the Mission's work with the homeless, rough sleepers, sofa surfers, alcoholics, drug addicts, the mentally ill and marginalised elements of our society.

To continue this work in raising awareness of the plight of these fellow humans, I am taking part in the Huddersfield Town foundation "the big sleep out" on Friday, 6 March. However, I am hoping to add a further twist of authenticity, and hopefully improve publicity as a result. I will set out to Huddersfield on foot with nothing more than the clothes I stand up in, I will then spend the day on the streets, requesting gifts of food, water, clothing, sleeping bags, arriving with whatever I can gather to join the rest of the participants at the stadium. I need £100 to take part and obviously the more I can raise the better for local charities involved in this work including the Mission/Welcome Centre
