I'm raising £2000 to Help children at Christmas time

Story

We're on a mission to raise as much money as possible, to support not one, not two, but THREE great causes this Christmas.

Cause 1: The Kingfisher Ward at Dorset County Hospital.

The Kingfisher Ward is a place of hope and healing for children and young people aged 0 to 17 years. It provides specialised care in General Medicine, ENT, Orthopaedic, and Surgical services. Our goal is to bring joy to the young patients by delivering presents to the ward on Saturday, 13th December.

Cause 2: Alex

Alex was born prematurely in November 2022. Alex spent some time in the special care unit before being able to come home in Jan/Feb 2023. In 2024,

Alex was diagnosed with Med13L, a rare genetic disorder. A lot is still unknown regarding how his future will look. He is non verbal and non mobile. He is supported by physiotherapy and occupational therapists, speech and language therapists and many more professionals. He has narrowed nasal passages and suffers from recurrent upper respiratory tract infections, which has led to many stays at Dorset County Hospital’s Kingfisher ward. He has bowed tibias, hip migration, brain abnormalities, undeveloped tear ducts, issues with sleep, Dysphagia and global developmental delay but yet despite all this, and not being able to get around, he is such a happy loving little boy.

Alex is cheeky and always smiling. He loves musical instruments the most, sensory toys, and lights and bubble tubes. He also loves sitting on his mum’s motorbike and going to see different animals at farms and parks.

Cause 3: Logan

Logan was born October 2018, he is non-verbal and his mental age is 18 months old. At 6 months he started to have problems.  He wasn’t crawling or walking, and he wasn’t developing like over babies.

After his first birthday he was diagnosed with hypermobility, where his legs bow and his ankles dislocate. At 2 years old, he began to show signs of autism and developed allergies to cats, and certain foods, causing him to have trouble breathing; he constantly struggles to eat, as he forgets that he is eating and chokes.

Logan takes many antibiotics to help his body fight infections when he is ill. He has a special dog (Rubble) who stays with him and alerts the family when he is about to have a fit. This happens if he overheats above 22 degrees and Logan is regularly admitted to the Kingfisher ward with infections.

He loves spinning things and sensory lights, buses, cars and bikes and twice a year going to Devon Cliffs, to see the country park and the sea. With the pain and constant effort it takes for Logan to walk just a short distance, he becomes exhausted and needs a wheelchair to get out and about and without a wheelchair his quality of life is hugely impacted - but through all of his ups and downs, he remains loving and happy.
