    Story

I have just given a home to an oldish collie because i thought i could help her. She was found on the side of the road, paralysed hind limbs, presumably the result of a road traffic accident. The first vet she saw from a large charity said he would put her to sleep. The kind lady that found her didn’t want this to happen so she managed to get her into rescue. The rescue’s vets decided that she had suffered a spinal trauma. Two months later she suddenly started to walk. Having previously had a collie with the same problem i thought i had the expperience to help her. However i was dealt a bombshell when my vet examined her and told me that she had a dislocated hip that was still out and had been for some time. Xrays have confirmed this. Who knows why she was on the road that day, and it is with grateful thanks to the rescue who have looked after her and done their best for her. But she is in pain, she can walk but not far, she gets worried if she thinks one of the other dogs will knock her and yet her tail wags all the time. She just loves people and i really want to do the best for her and not let her down. I can’t insure her because it’s pre-existing and i wasn’t expecting to take on a dog that required surgery. I can’t expect the rescue to pay, they need their funds to carry on their good work. I am hoping that kind dog lovers out there will sympathise with our plight and be in a position to donate to the Tipsy fund. I would be so grateful. My greatest wish would be to see her run and be able to go on walks. Thank you for reading and caring.

Tipsy had her hip surgery on Tuesday and came home today. She had a femoral head excision. The surgeon said that they had scar tissue as soon as they entered the hip. There was scar tissue everywhere and the femur had made it’s own socket wearing away much of the femoral head. In short it was all a lot worse than first thought. The surgery went well but she refused to stand. I’m pleased to say she is standing and walking now and pleased to be home. She has absolutely no muscle on that leg so lots of hydro, physio and massage to be done.

Thank to everyone who has helped and supported our challenge to raise funds for Tipsy's surgery. We now have a date of June 4th for consultation and 5th for surgery hopefully at Davies veterinary specialists. I have been there many times before and they are brilliant. She is having a femoral head excision, hence the reduced target. An agility training in the ring was held at the weekend and raised £315.84 which was fantastic. With our offline donations and fundraising we now have a total of £825. Please still share, we need your help.
