Story
Fundraising for Cancer Research & Cerebral Palsy in memory of Joan Bruce.
Joan Bruce, a wonderful mum, and nan passed away aged 91 on 2nd March this year. Unfortunately, due to COVID restrictions we were unable to say goodbye to her in hospital. We’re fundraising from 1st April – 31st August for her chosen charities, Cancer Research UK and Cerebral Palsy to remember and celebrate a wonderful life.

August 2021 Updates -
• Unfortunately, I forgot to extend the previous page when the fundraiser was extended. This page will stay open until the celebration.
• Existing money raised (£2,125) will be added to any amount raised on this page.
• As we are fundraising for two charities, I will setup two separate charity JustGiving pages, one for Cancer Research and one for Cerebral Palsy.
• This will allow me to split the final total equally and apply GiftAid to the final amount.

The Last 12 Months
Family orientated, caring, determined and stubborn are always words we used to describe Nan. Prior to lockdown she finally agreed to two amazing, local carers supporting her. Her family would visit on a daily basis.
Lockdown made the situation a lot worse, we could no longer visit, couldn’t hug Nan and she became forgetful, tearful, and confused. She couldn’t understand why her family stopped visiting.
Nan was taken into hospital in November for a water infection. Unfortunately, Nan never made it home from hospital. The staff were lovely and cared for her. We noticed a decline from February, a decline that we now know was caused by Breast Cancer.
Nan died peacefully on 2nd March, it took us by surprise, we thought she’d come home, thought we would get to see her, hug her, and visit again.
The funeral was a celebration of Nan’s life but could only be attended by close family. We’re planning a celebration later in the year to honour and celebrate a wonderful life, to give people the opportunity to share memories and to say goodbye. We’d love to raise as much as we can for Nan’s chosen charities, to be able to help people who need it, when they need it.
