Story
On the 27th December we as a family were knocked sideways with the news that dad had been diagnosed with terminal single cell cancer. It was completely unexpected and left us all feeling lost and hopeless. On the same day as being diagnosed dad was admitted into the Bristol Royal Infirmary as he had become poorly due to the cancer absorbing his salts. So after the news we had been given and having to come to terms with it all, dad spent 7 days in hospital with nurses, doctors and consultants running around to help him build his strength. Due to their hard work, care and commitment he has gained strength and on Monday 8th January started his first chemotherapy session, which🤞🏻 will slow the cancer down from spreading further. I am raising money for “Above and Beyond” which is a charity which raises money to thank the doctors and nurses at the Bristol Royal Infirmiry. Without seeing it first hand I would never have fully understood nor appreciated the demands hospital staff face on a daily basis, yet continue to do everything they can for those in their care.
In order to raise money I am hoping to complete the Weald Challenge, a 50km ultra trail marathon on Sunday 10th June 2018.
The Weald Challenge 50km Ultra Trail Marathon follows the long distance paths of the Wealdway and the Vanguard Way. The races start and finish in the village of Chiddingly, East Sussex and encompasses the surrounding beauty of the Sussex countryside en route. The courses are approximately 80% off-road, and as the runners travel along the picturesque and undulating routes, they will take in a great variety of landscapes containing rolling hills, irregular shaped fields and ancient woodlands.
