Story
Donate just £10 to help us tell our story
We're looking to identify 250 champions of LGBT equality to each donate £10 or more towards the development of our new show exploring queer history in Scotland.
Your £10 donation will help us grow the ambition and scope of our show.
The Show
Jock Tamson's Bairns is an immersive romp through an old school gay bar. It's filled with drag, comedy, music.. and conflict. At it's core it's a universal story about finding your tribe - where the audience are occasionally invited to participate.
Where We're At
We have a script, we have a cast and we have a lot of bookings from venues across Scotland including the Big Burns Supper Festival, Assembly Roxy, Paisley Art Centre, The CCA in Glasgow and Dundee Rep. They're all paying us fees, but as is common in the Scottish Cultural Sector, we need a little more subsidy to help push the work forward.
The show will exist regardless of your support - but here's why we'd like your help.
What We Want
We'd like to present a daytime version of the show in Secondary schools throughout Scotland. We now know that Scotland is set to become the first country in the world to embed LGBT eduction it the curriculum - and we'd like to be at the forefront of that development - offering young people real perspectives, in a fun and engaging manner.
So we're looking to find 250 champions of this project to each donate £10.
How We'll Use Your Donation
To be able to get into schools we need resource to market the show appropriately. The most effective way is to engage with local authorities directly - and use good old fashioned snail mail.
Your donation will be spent supporting the development of these relationships including design, production and distribution of our schools pack, and site visits to ensure the best possible presentation of the work.
What You Get
If you donate £10 - we'll add you to our mailing list and invite you to an exclusive 'champions performance' of the show. If you can't make that, we'll make sure to invite you along to one of our other public performances.
Want to Make A Donation as a Gift?
It's Secret Santa season. If you'd like to donate to the arts on behalf of someone else we can figure out the most appropriate way to credit that donation - be it a card, email or shout out on social media - just leave a note next to your donation and we'll be in touch to figure it out.

6 years agoNearly 5 years ago I wrote an open letter to 105 MSPs to thank them for voting for equal marriage in Scotland. It was read by about 250,000 people in the space of a week - mainly because it addressed some of the horrific bullying I experienced in and around school, and spoke of my hope for a new future for young queers like me. The show was built around that letter and you can read it here: https://wearecivildisobedience.com/2018/11/16/1988/ Thanks for your support so far. I promise we'll make you proud to have our backs.
