Hello, my name is Jodie from Essex and I'm 16. It's always been an ambition of mine to really make a difference in the world. Recently I've been given the opportunity to go to Kenya with Camps International and help people less fortunate than ourselves who are deprived of opportunities and resources that we take for granted every day like having an education and a roof over our heads. We do this by going over there and helping them to learn, build their desks and educational equipment, last year they even built them a school! We also are given the fantastic opportunity to meet the wonderful village people themselves and ask what we can do to help them, some examples of what they did last year was completely rebuilding an old ladies house which was destroyed by an elephant. To have an opportunity like this to put a smile on someone's face and have an impact on their lives is something I would love to do and I hope to be able to do in the summer of 2018. While we are out there we dig elephant watering holes to help them survive the dry season and making ethical elephant deterrents to protect local crops and their houses. We also help install fresh water tanks at schools and in villages allowing the local villagers access to clean, safe water. This is such an inspiring and fantastic opportunity that I have been given, and I would love nothing more than to be able to follow my dream of being able to help people and make a real impact on improving their lives.
