Story

Alice and I are running a 5K inflatable obstacle fun run on Saturday the 16th of June to fundraise for my mental health placement to Sri Lanka in July with registered charity SLV Global. The placement is focused on making a positive impact in the local community to the benefit of service users and is focused on being ethical and sustainable.

In Sri Lanka, I will be working with individuals with special needs, teaching English in the community to children and young adults. I will be running project activities, working in a team with other volunteers and taking responsibility for using my skills to work in under-resourced centres. I will be working 5 days a week living like a local and staying with a Sri Lankan family.

Mental health is something I feel really passionate about and having the opportunity to volunteer to offer creative therapies in an area with scarce mental health resources and to gain Psychology experience in a different culture is really important to me.

Sri Lanka is currently recovering from the long-term effects of its 25-year civil war and the tsunami that devastated the country in 2004. The aim of this placement is to help and support some of the most vulnerable people in Sri Lanka.

Please sponsor us to do this run, any donations at all are greatly appreciated!

Thank you so much for any support!
