Story

On the 11th May 2025 I will be running the Leeds half marathon, raising money for Neuro Heroes and their Community Exercise fund.

Neuro Heroes is the UK’s first online neurological gym, founded four years ago by neuro physiotherapists Anna Kharin and Laura Douglas. Driven by their belief in the transformative power of exercise for the Parkinson’s community, they created a positive, inspirational space for people with neurological conditions to access tailored exercise programs.

They offer 25 live Zoom classes weekly, led by neuro physiotherapists who provide real-time feedback. Their research-based classes combine music and engaging content to help participants meet exercise guidelines while having fun. They're passionate about building a community of "Heroes" who feel empowered to manage their symptoms and thrive.

The Neuro Heroes Community Exercise Fund:

Launched in 2022 with Parkinson’s UK, this fund removes financial and psychological barriers to exercise by subsidising classes for those who couldn’t otherwise participate. Their goals are:

1. To reach underserved communities, including those facing financial hardship, isolation, or cultural barriers.

2. To help inactive individuals get active and stay empowered.

Exercise improves mental and physical wellbeing, and participants report better mobility, balance, strength, reduced fatigue, increased confidence, and a brighter mood.
