What is crowdfunding?

Story
In lieu of birthday presents for my 30th, I am asking for equivalent value of what would have been spent on such items to be donated to purchase desired items for Wythenshawe Birth Centre.
I owe their team and facilities the greatest gift I could have asked for, my son.
