Story
In October 2025, my best friend Joe, aged 37, has recently received the devastating diagnosis of Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
For those unfamiliar with the condition, MND is a progressive neurological disease that affects the nerves responsible for movement. Over time, it causes increasing muscle weakness and loss of independence. It is a life-limiting illness and, at present, there is no cure.
Joe has always been someone who gives everything to the people around him. For 13 years he worked as a primary school teacher, supporting and inspiring young children every single day. In April 2025 he made the decision to explore new opportunities while continuing supply teaching, but following his diagnosis he is no longer able to work, leaving him without an income at an incredibly difficult time.
Joe is also a devoted father to Marnie and his family means everything to him. This diagnosis has turned life upside down for them all.
Why We Are Raising Funds
As Joe and his family come to terms with this diagnosis, there are many challenges ahead. Alongside the emotional impact of MND, there are also significant practical and financial pressures.
We are raising funds to help:
• Provide financial support while Joe is unable to work
• Help cover the costs of specialist care, therapies and treatments that may support Joe’s quality of life
• Assist with any home adaptations that may be needed in the future
• Allow the family to focus on time together and making special memories without financial worry
• Support anything Joe may need as he navigates living with MND
The funds raised will go directly to Joe and his family to help support them during this incredibly difficult journey.
How You Can Help
Many people who have heard Joe’s news have asked how they can help. This page has been created to give everyone the opportunity to show their support.
Any donation, no matter how big or small, will make a meaningful difference.
If donating isn’t possible, simply sharing this page helps spread the word and means a great deal.
We will also be organising fundraising events in the future and doing everything we can to ensure Joe and his family feel supported every step of the way.
A Message of Thanks from Joe
The kindness, generosity and messages of support already shown have meant the world to me and my family. In such a difficult time, the love surrounding me has been incredibly powerful.
Thank you for helping us stand beside them and support them however we can.
From Joe’s family and friends ❤️
