Award winning UK Gospel Artist John Fisher ended 2018 on a massive high but started 2019 losing all that he had worked so hard to acquire as a massive fire tore through the storage unit where he stored his musical equipment, recording gear, PA systems, IDMC and We Sing U Sing merchandise and other personal and business documents as well as priceless memorabilia.

Approximately 8pm on New Year’s Eve, fire broke out at the Shurgard storage facility on Croydon’s Purley Way and the whole building was destroyed. The fire has robbed the livelihoods of John and hundreds of other individuals who also stored their businesses or personal belongings there.

John’s work has allowed him to work with great and small, bringing joy through singing, music and the arts – and this loss is a very, very big blow. 2019 will see John celebrate not only 25 years of his gospel choir IDMC, and also 45 years in the music industry. But we have to say, 2019 has started badly with this devastating news.

John estimates he has lost between £25k and £35k of equipment and belongings that have been accumulated over a number of years. Some of these items are irreplaceable, such as the very first drum kit that was given to him in 1978. Although John will be able to claim some items through the insurance company, early indications are that it will be nowhere near enough to cover what has been lost. In addition, these insurance claims are going to take months to process. We are appealing to those who love John and support his work to donate generously to make up the difference.

John’s working year has already started, and he is now preparing shows for IDMC’s 25th year, along with community projects for the hundreds of school children he works with every year. We want to start to restore what has been lost so this valuable outreach work isn’t held back in any way.

The outpouring of love and kind sentiments from friends, family and social media followers has been overwhelming, and based on many suggestions and requests we have set up this Just Giving page. Please give what you can to allow John’s vital ministry to continue. This year he plans to bring the gospel to thousands of people through IDMC concerts both home and abroad, and through his We Sing U Sing projects with school children.
