Story

My good friend Tracy runs an animal rescue in Swadlincote, and every year helps hundreds of animals find loving homes or foster after they are discarded or abandoned, some come through to rescue at no fault of their own through bereavement and simply need a hand finding somewhere new, but some also come in with awful health and conditions with long lists of medical issues that led to them being "given up" .. At Wonky Pets putting to sleep is not an option nor has it ever been, but the downside to this is even something as humble as a kitten can soon rack up vets bills running into hundreds of pounds. With lockdown coming to an end this has also led to a sudden influx of animals as people suddenly realize they cant care for an animal AND work (although many people do without issues).

A few years ago I shaved my head for Wonky's and raised about £700 which whilst not a huge amount helped, so in my minds eye its time for a better fund raiser so this time i am doing something truly ridiculous and riding a small 70's 3 wheeled moped from John O'Groats to Lands End. This machine is interesting in that it has next to no suspension, tiny wheels, and a reputation for being a handful to ride, should all add to the fun im sure.! ! The bike (known as Charlie) is also the oldest known Bsa Ariel 3 in the Uk

The expected distance according to the mighty Google is 983 miles, but obviously there is the whole getting to John O'Groats first of all, but im only asking for sponsorship on the total miles covered before either the bike gives up the ghost or my butt does, he is a good machine but this is a lot of miles in a short time. I'm hoping for the sake of the rescue that people will feel generous and pop some pennies in the pot. All monies received WILL go to the rescue, i am going to fund my own fuel etc for the trip. My very good friend Paul is going to provide back up for me, although he will be in car rather than on a bike.

Here I am with one of my favourite of the rescues permanent residents "Louby-lou" sadly she is no longer with us but spent almost her entire life at Wonky's , Monies raised will go a long way to ensuring animals with behavioral issues that arent suitable to rehome can be kept safe. More details about the ongoing work at the rescue can be found at the link below as it shows in greater detail the sort of work that is undertaken there.

So there you go, I am a 48 year old mechanic, who hopes to help a friend and lots of four legged friends. So help me if you can !! I am hoping to do the ride in June of 2023 as this gives me time to sort all the logistics of everything out..
