Story

At 76, after retiring from 50 years of professional life, I need a challenge. I have sailed since a teenager, and have always wanted to do an ocean crossing, but never had the time to do so. I also want to take the opportunity to contribute a little to several global challenges – in particular, the build-up of plastic in the oceans which is harming marine life as well as humans; the cutting off of talent and ambition because of rising poverty and inequality, especially but not only in the poorer countries; the growing number of orphans, especially girls, in countries such as India. Sailing is a way of travelling with low impacts on climate change, and I have always loved to travel – often through my work - and meet people from different countries. I believe more – and a more diverse group of -people should learn to travel and take holidays in this sustainable way.
