As you will have sadly heard, on Sunday 19th September 2021, John Challis died peacefully in his sleep. John was a true gentleman, an outstanding actor and a wonderful human being. John was lucky enough to spend over 25 years married to Carol, who will miss him dearly.

John had many acting roles over the years, but he will mostly be remembered for his character "Boycie" in Only Fools and Horses. His infamous laugh will live on in all of us. He leaves an amazing legacy of work that will continue to bring pleasure and smiles for many years to come.

Although John's loved ones have requested privacy at this difficult time, they have said that in the future there will be an occasion to celebrate his life, and everyone will be welcome (details will be shared at a later date). This is something special for us all to look forward to.

My personal message to John when I heard of his passing was:

"You aren't 'some bloke off the tele'. To us, you are family. I have been lucky enough to work alongside you, dine with you and enjoy several drinks along the way.

I had a cognac today as a toast to you. I'm not going to lie - it tasted awful and burnt my throat. But it gave us a laugh. It feels like the end of an era. A brilliant era. A bloody funny era. Conventions will never be the same, but we will keep your memory alive and do our best to make you proud.
