    Story

“SOLO 230-300 MILE SPONSORED WALK OF THE CAPE WRATH TRAIL”

IN AID OF HEADWAY EAST KENT (FOLKESTONE BRANCH)

Hi, my name is John Christie, I retired from the Kent Fire & Rescue Service 2yrs ago after 25yrs service and have had a few adventures since, this includes 5 months walking round South East Asia, and last year I walked the West Highland Way which is a 100 mile walk from the outskirts of Glasgow to Fort William.
This year on the 7th June 2017, I will be attempting to walk the Cape Wrath Trail, the trail distance ranges between 230-300 miles depending on weather condition and route taken. The walk starts from Fort William and ends at Cape Wrath. The Cape Wrath Trail has been described as one of the hardest trails to complete in the UK, this is due to the weather conditions and the lack of paths/trails on the route, the clear majority of the walk will be on bog and moorland with a high degree of compass, map reading and navigation skills required, as most of the walk takes in some of the most wild and remotest areas in the UK.
I have decided to walk in aid of Headway as I have witnessed firsthand the work and help that the staff and volunteers provide to those people who need their help.
Headway promotes wider understanding of all aspects of brain injuries and provides information, support and services to people with a brain injury, their families and carers.

Headway East Kent is an independent charity working to provide social rehabilitation to adults with acquired brain injury as well as offering support to their families and carers. The charity has been established for 28 years and has five day centres, termed Headway Houses, in East Kent; Canterbury, Ashford, Thanet, Dover and Folkestone. The day centres have timetables which are structured across the week to include various activities to promote learning new skills, improving self-esteem and social interaction, goal planning and development of interests and aims leading to personal fulfilment.

      Update from the Page owner

Hi everyone, just want to say a big thank you to everyone that donated to my cause. I managed to reach my £200 target on JustGiving plus another £180 through other dinstations given to me on the walk and by friends complete strangers. I'll have to be honest the walk itself was extremely demanding and too every ounce of energy and mental capacity to complete. The thing that kept me going throughout the walk was the thought of your donations going to such a great cause. Once again thank you 😁

hello and welcome to my fund raising page, I have decided to try and raise as much money as I can for my local Headway branch, the reason for raising money for them is,because a friend of mine recently suffered a brain injury and I have witnessed the help and support provided.
