Weʼve raised £335 to create a John Magee Memorial

Funded on Monday, 26th December 2016

    Story

John Magee has inspired a generation of pilots throughout the world. He died tragically in a mid air collision in a Spitfire in 1941 and left us all with his inspirational poem High Flight which is known by heart by aviators worldwide. The poem was recited by President Reagan following the Challenger Space Shuttle disaster, and has been used more privately at countless funerals and memorial services for military personnel.

John Magee lived and died in Lincolnshire and we are raising money to build a unique lasting memorial to his life and poetry. The ambition is to commission an international sculptor to create a large scale permanent memorial in Lincolnshire in the village where John lived. When completed the memorial will be open 24/7 free of charge and will enable members of the public and members of the RAF, RCAF, and US Air Force to visit.

This first phase of fundraising is to commission the sculptor Antony Dufort to produce a small scale model of the final work. Once this first stage is completed we will be launching a major appeal to fund the production and siting of the statue.

Please donate as much as you can to help get this project underway.

Also, please share our appeal to all your friends worldwide as John Magee is highly revered around the world particularly by Military personnel.
