    Story

I will be participating in "The Run In The Dark" event which is a 10k run in Battersea Park on November 16th to raise money for our local community library (Basil Griffith library). The money raised will be used to purchase equipment so we can sufficiently launch the Beards & Books children's reading program in 2017.

The Beards & Books program will be a weekend based educational program which includes workshops, which aims to improve the literacy levels of children who may come from disadvantaged or underprivileged backgrounds in Sheffield. The workshops aim to bring parents together to promote confidence and skills, particularly amongst fathers to encourage more proactive engagement from fathers within the educational development of their children. We are really excited about the potential for this program to improve the literacy and life chances of all of our children.

Throughout the last eight months as a team, we have collectively self-funded to renovate the library. This includes a full upgrade of safe and child-friendly equipment and furniture alongside extensive cleaning and maintenance. As we are nearing the end of these refurbishments we are in need of a variety of books.

The books which are essential to our educational program are books which are focused on promoting literacy skills (i.e. books based on phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehensions, dictionaries, encyclopaedias, thesaurus’s, fictional books and books about storytelling traditions.

By donating you will provide us with the books needed to make a difference in a young person’s life. Help us fill the space on our shelves do the right thing donate today !!!!
