Weʼve raised £14,010 to raise money for two amazing charities helping us build a boarding house in remote far north east of Nepal. Please help us reach that target!

    Story

This is an updated page set up at the halfway piont. I have walked almost 700 miles, and……. I have 700 more miles to go!

I am walking the entire span of Nepal (somewhere around 1,400 miles with over 60 miles of vertical ascent) from west to east. I will be accompanied by 2 porters that I have known for years, and who are also both excited to see the whole of Nepal. We are eating simple rice “dal bhat” throughout; no meat and just water and tea. I have 112 days in total to complete this, and if you have ever trekked in the hills of Nepal, you’ll know is a tough ask. I am on target so far!

The background; there is a small village in the far north east of Nepa called Oyam. The school there is brilliant, with great teachers, and because of that, their pupils come from a wide area, some of them walking over 3 hours each way to reach the school. So we are building a boarding house to make sure these children can stay, in safety, and continue their education.

Not only are we building a boarding house, we have incoprporated a library, an IT suite, solar, homework areas, and a space for wardens to sleep too!

We couldn’t do this without theh help of two amazing charities - Hello World, and The Gurkha Welfare Trust. They are helping with the build and funding important aspects of it. Your donations will be split between them.

Hello World is one of the most capable charities working in Nepal to bring education, through internet provision, to some of the most remote and disadvantaged locations in Nepal. The effects it achieves are genuinely outstanding.

The Gurkha Welfare Trust has been, for years, the life-line that allows impoverished ex-Gurkhas to live out their lives with dignity. It’s an incredible charity absolutely bringing real comfort to those in the hills.

My target (both the walk, and the fund-raising) is a tough one, but I am aiming high, because I know you will all appreciate that it is a huge challenge (slash crazy idea) to complete.

Please give as generously as you can. If you want to follow my progress, you can do so here

Half way! 8 weeks of walking. 650 miles covered through lesser travelled west Nepal. The remoteness and beauty of the area is with out question, but it is tough. Johnny hopes to have a couple of days rest in Pokhara before setting off to complete the walk at the opening of Oyam school Memorial Hall on 1st May . So he needs to do it all again! This walk would be of little point with out all your support so thank you all for the part you play, If you are not following him already on fb or Instagram I encourage you to take a look.

6 weeks of walking & Johnny is now truely getting into his stride. With approx 500miles under his belt he has found his belt needs tightening! Mini is doing his best to up calories for Johnny so meals come with added omelettes & Buffalo Curd. Recently they have been through jungle & tiger territory. Prints first alerted them to their presence and locals confirmed this, so choosing a safe spot overnight has been important for a good nights sleep. Tonight camp has come under much scrutiny from onlookers, perfect excuse for a team photo!

Johnny has now walked for 1month. He has covered over 350miles with Mini & Rakcha & that has included some pretty steep paths & the sort of paths that hang precariously on the side of a hill! Today he got a shout out on Virgin Radio’s Breakfast show. Hari Budha Magar was being interviewed by Chris Evans about his goal of being the 1st person who scales Everest as a double above knee amputee. An amazing man & also an Ambassador for the Gurkha Welfare Trust. I know Johnny will be so chuffed to have Hari send luck over the airwaves.
