Story

Babu is a 40 year old man who is supported by his 65 year old mother in rural Kerala, India. He developed polio at the age of 1.5 years. He did manage to attend mainstream schooling until Year 9, and has done few courses in printing, book binding etc. His treatment also has taken a financial toll on the family, but with no significant improvements in his quality of life. He now lives on his own while his mother is away for work, helped also by the goodwill of his neighbours who sometimes cook for him. He earns a small amount of money doing odd jobs that he can do while sitting down due to his disability. This amount however hardly meets ends and he is dependant on his mother for financial support. His mother has worked hard all her life from the young age of 8 as a domestic helper and in more recent years as what would be the traditional equivalent of a doula, involving post-natal care of newborn baby and mum.

His mother has ended up with debts to the banks from which loans were taken for building a basic shelter for Babu, as well as education and marriage expenses for his other two siblings. She is now paying huge amounts every month, a good proportion of her income, just to pay off the interests on the loans, while being unable to pay off the main loan. This is now a vicious circle and with her worsening physical health, she worries for Babu's future once she is unable to work due to her age and ailments.

We are hoping to raise funds for this deserving family, and any amount raised would be a huge mental and financial relief to Babu and his mother. The debts they have are much more than the target of this crowdfunding campaign hence do donate generously. We know this family personally and can vouch for the authenticity of their situation.
