Story
Our father John Purkis died on 8th December 2018 and we are raising funds in his memory. John studied at Merton College, Oxford where he appeared as Miss Prism in the Importance of Being Earnest with the Merton Floats (Merton student drama society), part of the money raised will go to support their ongoing work. John worked at the Open University from 1970 - 1995 teaching English and later in the Classics department. Part of your donation will go to support students, teaching and research at the Open University . If you would like to join us in supporting these causes in John's memory please donate here.

5 years agoI have sent part of the donations to the Open University today. Here is a message from their fundraising team: The Open University is hugely grateful for the generosity of those that have donated in memory of John Purkis. Your support will help to continue the widening access mission of the OU through contributing towards student bursaries for those most in need.

John and Sallie became close friends the moment we got to know each other on a Historical Association tour I organised to North Korea. A visit to John in Cambridge was always an inspiration.
