Story
Our son was born 8 weeks prematurely in 2015 and is currently being treated for a narrowed airway on the Children's Wards at Leicester Royal Infirmary. Although he has attended the hospital on a monthly basis, we are fortunately discharged after three days. However, some children are still resident in the High Dependency Unit almost a year after the start of our treatment since they require breathing support 22 hours per day.
We want to raise money to buy equipment to continue to make these children's lives comfortable and allow them more freedom of movement within the hospital. If we raise enough money, it may be possible to buy equipment to allow some children to be treated at home, particularly in the winter months.
My partner and I are challenging ourselves by organising and/or taking part in a number of events to raise awareness of the wonderful care that the HDU at Leicester Royal Infirmary provides and to raise funds to support other children and their parents. These include:
1. BIkepacking off-road through Argyll along 655 km (407 miles) of Scotland's first long-distance trail. This challenge is extremely difficult and involves climbing higher than Everest with a total ascent of 13,827 m (45,364 feet) as shown in the profile on our cover page.
2. 5km run. My partner is completing a 5 km run. This is an achievement for a very sedentary BMI-challenged lady.
3. Shepshed Cycle Club are kindly donating all proceeds from their first reliability ride to support this cause.
We would appreciate any support you are able to give so that we can purchase vital equipment and donate it to the HDU ward.
