I've raised £100 to buy various clothes, stationary, books and equipment for children in an orphanage in Kenya

Myself and sophie cragg are going to Kenya for 3 weeks in October to volunteer in an orphanage. Our days will be spent preparing meals, doing the children's laundry, feeding the younger ones, any maintenance or gardening , teaching classes in their school, taking them to their after school activities and most importantly spending time and having fun with the children. As well as this we will get the opportunity to visit one of the many camps for internally displaced persons, where many people were left injured and homeless after the violence following the 2007 elections. We have paid the fees for the trip including accommodation and flights ourselves but would love to take extra money and donations to purchase things for the children once we are there, especially as the charity we have chosen to go with are non profit and only cost for accommodation, food, insurance, and just a small amount towards the orphanage itself. More generally in Kenya infrastructure, both physical and organisational, is often poor, leading to potholed roads, an impossibly small education budget, and some of the lowest wages for doctors in the world. Because of this, schools, medical clinics, and other institutions are often understaffed and under-provisioned. This is why we are volunteering here and why we would like donations to give the children in this country a better chance in life.
