Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered charity.
The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.
I am an independent singer songwriter from California who cares deeply about the state of the world and the people in it. A few years ago, I came across a Time magazine showing what was going on in Syria at the height of the mass evacuation and civil war. The stories I read about those families and the country broke me to tears and cut so deep that not standing up or doing something would be an outright violation to myself and my sense of shared humanity. I found myself spending the next few days digging through articles and reading more stories of the Syrians and the background of their situations. After two days of this I was able to crystalize the stories into a compelling and inspirational song called 'Refugees'.
I am currently heading the process of shooting a film for the song and am asking for $6,000 which covers the fee of the film crew, hiring cast, renting locations, props, film gear, special effects and editing, food etc. This budget will ensure a professional experience for all involved which allows us to create the visuals necessary to bring justice to this song and awareness to the millions of Syrians who are displaced in the biggest mass crisis since World War II.
The song itself never explicitly speaks to the Syrians and is open for all who find themselves refugees from war, like many Afghans, Eritreans, and Somalis. Being an African American, I and many others can relate to feeling misplaced and even un-welcomed here in America. Depending on how you look at it, we are all refugees.
Thank you for funding my dream of bringing awareness through art to those in need.
