What is crowdfunding?

Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered nonprofit.

The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.

Supporting Joseph through his rehabilitation

Earlier this year, Joseph was just like any other normal 12-year old, playing football, rugby, Xbox, hanging with his friends and generally enjoying his young life.

After several trips to his GP with leg pain, and a visit to the local hospital, his parents received the devastating news that Joseph had Osteosarcoma (bone cancer) and needed to start extensive chemotherapy immediately.

The initial sessions of chemo did not shrink the tumour and on 19th August Joseph had his lower left leg amputated. After a week recovering from the operation, he was straight back into chemo and this is currently on going.

Through all of this Joseph has been an absolute inspiration. A brave, cheerful little guy supported by wonderful family and friends and, of course, his best mates who constantly visit him both at home and at hospital.

He still has a long road ahead with chemotherapy stretching into 2020, but when his treatment is over Joseph aims to be back on the sports field as soon as possible. As part of his recovery and to help him achieve this goal, his wish is to have a blade. The NHS has limited funding for this type of prosthesis so the costs will need to be financed by his family, ongoing fund-raising activities and donations.

Joseph has now been given his first NHS prosthetic leg which he will have to visit the limb centre to practice with it before he can take it home. He found it difficult and emotional at first but they are confident with practice he will soon be able to walk without crutches.

Joseph has had the operation on his chest however they made the decision to do both lungs together which is a serious and painful operation. He is currently in Birmingham Children's Hospital recovering which will take about a week before he is allowed to come home.

Just an update before the end of what has been a long year. Joseph should finish his last Chemotheropy session on the 19th December so will be home for Christmas. He has an operation planned for January to remove the Cancer from one of his lungs with another in Febuary to do the other side. He can then start to concentrate on getting his new leg organised which has been delayed due to infections that are proving hard to clear up. We would like to thank you all again for your support and wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
