In July 2017, I will be joining a group of 30 young people on the sixth Heswall Youth Fellowship Uganda Mission to serve in a variety of ways, whilst learning about the developing world. I will be undertaking a year- long training programme to understand the culture and language and preparing to work on practical activities to help our partners in Uganda.

Over three weeks of my summer holiday, I will be working on the following projects in three Ugandan primary schools in the very poorest communities:

• To prevent malaria, we’ll be hanging mosquito nets for people in the local community
• To prevent tooth decay, we’ll be providing toothbrushes & lessons in dental hygiene
• To prevent girls missing school, we will be running menstrual health lessons with the older girls

Some of us will be joining a medical team which will go to remote villages to provide health care where none exists.

In order to participate in this project I will need to raise a total sum of £1,300 to cover my flights, accommodation, transport, project resources and food with any surplus donated to the projects in Uganda. I plan to raise part of the money via a variety of fund raising activities including odd jobs, cleaning and gardening, and I am hoping to raise the rest through sponsorship and fundraising events.
