Story

I’m an 18 year old on a gap year; who wants to travel, live and learn from other people and communities who don't have the same opportunities as me. In September, I will be going to the University of Napier where I will be studying Film and Editing; a course which tests your creative mind. This project will be ideal for developing my skills and giving me an insight into the differences and similarities between cultures.

In June 2018 I will be travelling to Cape Town with the volunteering company, Projects Abroad. Over a 4 week period, I will be working as a journalist and documentary maker for Cape Chameleon; a volunteer-led magazine sponsored by Projects Abroad. My project will involve exploring the youth culture, fashion and lifestyles in Cape Town. This appealed to me because the articles created by volunteers showcase stories to inspire others to create positive change. This project is in line with the ethos of Projects Abroad – help, learn, explore – Cape Chameleon deliver this within the local communities.

As this is voluntary work, it is all unpaid for. I will need to cover the costs of flights, the programme fee and equipment for the project. Through your help this project will be made possible. This will allow the continuation of volunteering companies such as Projects Abroad to give opportunities to others around the world who struggle daily.
