Joyce Wilson (née Serwah) wanted to be a fashion buyer from a young age.

After completing a short course at the London College of Fashion in fashion retail buying, she embarked on a career that took her around the world and allowed her to fulfil her dreams.

After gaining work experience at Liberty's and Reiss, she really took the first steps in her career at Moss Bros / Cecil Gee in Clapham, buying men's casual wear and working with numerous household brands. She then moved to Ralph Lauren, where she bought womenswear, menswear, accessories, and luxury items. After six years, the opportunity to move to Hugo Boss presented itself and she relocated from London to Germany. In her time there, she was promoted three times, managed dozens of colleagues, and was responsible for hundreds of millions of euros worth in sales.

Without warning, Joyce passed away aged just 42 in her home city of London in 2025. Leaving a husband and a family devastated, they committed to bring to life Joyce's dream of supporting more black women in the fashion buying industry.

The Joyce Serwah Wilson Foundation aims to award grants to ethnic minority women from low-income backgrounds to help them attend fashion retail buying courses at the London College of Fashion. Joyce's legacy can live on through encouraging a more diverse reflection of society in the boardrooms of high street and luxury fashion retailers.
