#JUBILEEWALKFORDENNIS
On 2nd of July our dad suffered a cardiac arrest at Preston Marina. Immediately after being found he received CPR from members of the public and his heart was started by a member of the team at the marina cafe using the defibrillator located near to the boats. The emergency services arrived within minutes, including 4 ambulances and 2 helicopters, one of which airlifted dad to the Royal Preston Hospital. Dad and his best friend Robert were due to set sail for their maiden voyage on their boat jubilee in the last couple of weeks and while this is not possible, we want to mirror this journey on land to raise funds for the NW Air Ambulance for the amazing work they do, to provide replacement pads for the defibrillator located at Preston Marina and for the incredible Critical Care Unit at The Royal Preston Hospital to help provide resources that are vital in supporting families like us, who are experiencing some of the most difficult times. On Friday 2nd August, to mark one month since dad was brought into hospital, we will be walking the coastal route between Fleetwood and Royal Preston Hospital which is approximately 32 miles. Dad has a long journey of recovery and we still dont know how far he may or may not recover. He sustained significant brain damage as a result of his brain being starved of oxygen when he suffered the cardiac arrest and the damage and long term prognosis is unknown. We are so grateful for everyone who has contributed to our dad being with us today. As a family we are focused on giving something back as a thank you to the support we have received from those that found and tended to our dad, to the emergency services and to every single doctor, nurse, healthcare assistant, clerical and facilities staff at Royal Preston Hospital who have not only cared for our dad, but who have been amazing in supporting our family at this heartbreaking time and delivered first class care and compassion at every stage xxx
