Weʼve raised £10 to help buy 'family' water filters to send to Ghana where I have just volunteered for the past two weeks.

    Story

Before I left for Ghana, I had lots of offers of support which was great, but I had no idea at that point what was truly needed.. Now that I have returned, I have a better understanding of the things that would make a big difference to the people of Ghana. Water still has to be the main priority, but with that comes an ecological issue that also needs tackling given my experiences. In the towns, clean water is sold in plastic pouches whilst the more remote communities still drink water from 'undesirable' sources. There doesn't appear to be any bins or any sort of refuse collections so the empty pouches litter the streets and even remote areas of interest as I've discovered which is such a shame when the country itself is so beautiful and has a wonderful soul despite it's difficulties.

Whilst I can't solve the litter problem, I can help many families in the remote areas by providing water filters. These water filters were developed in the UK, they need very little maintenance or replacement parts and very simple to use. Not only that, they cost as little as £30 to buy (which is nothing to us) and provides a whole family with continual clean water which is priceless to them. I was standing there watching the difference a water filter made to the quality of the water. I watched a leader drink that water quite happily to prove it was safe. You can see from the photo the difference it made and I would have drank it myself had I been asked.

My current mission is to provide 10 families with such water filters. Every penny donated will contribute towards buying a life-saving device which promotes wellness whilst preventing sickness and disease.

I hope all those offers of help are still valid....it doesn't matter how large or small, it's the bigger picture which is important. When you've experienced the Ghanian welcome and the gratitude for every little thing done for them, then you'll understand the reward of giving.
