Story

Julian Turner Bell - known by some as 'Jules,' by some as 'JTB,' but by almost everybody as 'Ju' - was a musician who lived his whole life in Windsor.

He drummed in numerous bands over the years, but local gig-goers are most likely to remember Paradise Alley, Blue Murder and Just Another Girl - not to mention tribute bands like Nott the Hoople and Hellraiserz.

Ju battled illness throughout his life, losing a lung to cancer in his 20s, and later undergoing a below-the-knee leg amputation for the same reason.

But none of this ever stopped him gigging, or working as pyro technician, roadie, guitar tech (amongst a million other things) for artists including Larry Miller, Limehouse Lizzy, Dan Baird (Georgia Satellites) and John Fiddler (Medicine Head & British Lions).

Ju shared his knowledge, skills and experience throughout his life - with his record-buying customers at HMV; with the children with autism and other special needs that he taught; and, towards the end of his life, tutoring fledgling drummers at Rock Project Surrey.

We, his friends and family, were shocked by his sudden death, and sadly Covid prevented us from celebrating his life properly.

But now the time has come to do it in style, in the form of an indoor mini-festival - 'JuFest' - on what would have been his 65th birthday.

Many of the bands he played with will be re-forming for the event, and there will be guest appearances by friends from Wayward Sons and Cats in Space, amongst others.

And we are looking for donations to help us make sure that this can be achieved! We need to raise around £1000 to cover the cost of the following:

Venue hire (including bar and staffing)

Lighting/projection/audio set up and equipment hire

Musician/band expenses (travel and accommodation)

Any remaining money, and/or any profits from the event will go to charity.
