Children and youth

Story

Wick Youth Club was established in 1976 long before any other local similar service. Since then thousands of children and adults have passed through the doors. The club has consistently provided affordable youth services and hire space to groups, both able and disabled.

For the past 30 odd years the club was assisted with core funding from Highland Council. This was for the club to provide youth services instead of them being run by Highland Council. The funding went towards running costs and wages. Unfortunately in April 2017 this funding was withdrawn, without consultation, leaving a large gap in the club's income of £14000. In 2013 the youth club took over the running of Rosebank Playing Fields after is was shut down by Highland Council. With a lot of hard work, financial input and improvements the facility has now become very popular with both the local community and tourists.

Applying for funding is a long process and it is very difficult to find sources who fund running costs. The staff at the Youth Club and Rosebank are dedicated to carrying on the good work being done within the community and give beyond what they are paid for. Children are the future and Wick offers very little for young people socially. We offer a safe, fun environment for all ages to meet up. With your help we know we can carry on providing this service both at the Youth Club and the Rosebank for a long time to come. Any donation no matter how small will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
