Candles for Ukraine - Facebook Page

💙💛 Oksana is a 23 year old electrician from the city of Odessa in Ukraine, born in Mikolaiv.

She trained in Ukraine as an electrician and until the war started had a wonderful life and a great career working on a team of 150 municipal electricians tending public power networks including everything from streetlights to event lighting and power.

She left Odessa in May and now is hosted in the village of Haddenham near to Ely with a lovely English family. She is in full time employment.

Regularly in contact with her work colleagues and family that remained behind, she wants to help them through the power outage that will endure this winter. So, she has started ‘Candles for Ukraine’ a charitable effort to send donated candles to Ukraine for distribution to those in need.

She says “It is my aim to send 10,000 candles to send to Ukraine before the winter really sets in to help families who are surviving with no electricity to get through the winter. The Russian aggressors have destroyed 40% of the energy infrastructure, in many areas there is no power and no light. There are no candles in the shops, or if you an find them, they are very expensive.”

Tha candles will be delivered to Ukraine in late November via lorries that are also carrying medical supplies.
