Story
WELCOME
On Sunday 8th October, Frank, Lawrence, and Stanley conquered the Spartan Super 10K, facing 25 grueling obstacles to test their endurance and strength, all to raise funds for Just A Guy CIC.
What Do We Do?
At Just A Guy CIC we work to improve the aspirations and educational outcomes of young people from undeserved communities. We believe that providing young people with access to networks of advice, support, and mentoring will drive their social mobility. Through our mentoring programs and workshops, we develop young people who are more informed, confident, and able to make well-reasoned decisions about their future.
We are a registered Community Interest Company, connect with us so we can add value to even more communities.
What is our Mission?
Our mission is to promote the following characteristics in the young people we work with so that they are:
Aspirational thinkers: able to set specific goals for their futures, with the flexibility and motivation to achieve them.
Seeking a growth mindset: believing their abilities can be developed through hard work and effort over time.
Resilient when faced with challenges: able to deal with difficulties positively and bounce back from adversity stronger.
Developing high self-efficacy: able to apply their knowledge and skills confidently.
How Did We Get Here?
Just A Guy was originally set up to document Lawrence Tijjani’s recovery from a severe epileptic seizure that affected his physical mobility. His honest account of his experiences has resonated with a large audience, who found his strength and determination to work through his rehabilitation and now chronic symptoms, inspirational. As a result, it has now transcended into a full social enterprise that offers a whole range of services to help 14 25-year-olds navigate their way through life.
Why Do We Need Your Help?
We need your help to bring together more mentors to work with even more young people. We are working on a platform that will allow mentors and mentees to communicate, set targets, track progress and share successes. We want to make it as easy as possible for mentors to take a proactive role in the development of their mentees, and for mentees to receive meaningful feedback and understand the importance of accountability. We hope to be able to share updates with key stakeholders such as school leaders or parents so there is much more visibility in how effective the mentoring is. We hope to do all of this, whilst still ensuring we maintain robust safeguarding mechanisms that keep everyone safe.
In addition to our mentoring platform, we are looking to expand on the success of our online careers by hosting even bigger in-person events. We are looking to grow our network further so that young people can attend a range of workshops and talks from leading businesses, educators, and experts. We pride ourselves in providing FREE events, but we do have costs such as event spaces, staffing, refreshments, resources, and marketing that must be covered.
PREVIOUS EVENTS
The Online Careers Fair
Step Up With Digital Skills
For the past two years (2020-21) we have delivered successful three-day remote careers fairs in July for school children across the UK. High-profile guest speakers included representatives from The Bank of England, Barclays, Channel 4, Google, and The London Fire Brigade.
During the school day, students live-streamed talks from a diverse range of speakers across several different industries. Many others tuned in later with parents to access good quality information about future study options and labour market opportunities. Our FREE events were packed with inspiration, information, knowledge, and the chance to speak to professionals from the world of work.
How Can You Help Us?
We have been working hard to make sure we provide our support to those that need it most.
Please help this Community Interest Company raise the necessary funds to further increase our offer to young people, families, and schools that need our services.
We'd appreciate it if you could share, donate or raise awareness of our important work so that disadvantaged young people who need the support most receive it.

Hey Lawrence, I was at the Oru launch and was touched by your story. This isn’t a lot, but I hope my donation helps get you into schools—young people need to hear that anything is possible.
