    Story

I am raising money to cotinue the fight for justice for my mother. I have been fighting for over 5 years now as I believe that my mothers murder could have been prevented by the authroties.

I strongly believe that the Metropolitan Police and the Mental Health Institute recieved so many warnings that my mother was in great danger, however all of these warnings were ignored. If they did their duties and showed just a little bit of care and pride in their work my mothers death would have been prevented.

I have been to numerous people including; my Local MP, The Ministry of Justice, Coroners however all doors have been closed. There is no legal aid to allow me to fight this to help prevent this happening to any other familes. This is why I am asking for your help.

I have posted below a more detailed version of events which lead to my mothers death, newspaper links and other key information will be added periodically.

    Full Story...

My mother was murdered over 5 years ago and still we have not received justice. My mother Eleftheria Demetriou died on August 15th 2012 to a man who came to this country on a false passport and spent over 10 years in a mental home.

I have been fighting a legal battle against the NHS, Metropolitan Police and the Mental Health Institute for over 5 years now and it has been affecting myself and my family, I have had to sell my family home and use up all of my savings into paying lawyers and court fees to continue my fight. I want to hold them responsible for the major role they played in my mothers murder.

They allowed Hakim Abdillahi who came into this country on a false passport, who was diagnosed with a personality disorder and spent over 10 years in our systems mental hospital. He was then discharged as they believed he was able to cope in the real world alone, he was sent home to his flat which was 4 doors away from where my mother lived peacefully. He had no after care in place into ensuring he was going to cope, this all happening without the consent of his doctor. He phoned the police over 100 times to try and receive help to get himself back into the mental home as he believed he was not coping and really couldn't grasp living in the real world as this is a major jump living alone without being under constant supervision, he was told by the authorities that he was attention seeking and his cries for help were ignored and that he was well enough and needed to get on with it.

The night before he brutally murdered my mother he rang the police stating to them 'He knows where the Anti Christ lives and I am going to deal with her' he proceeded to give them my mothers address without actually giving her name directly. Around 2am he was outside of my mothers flat shouting ' I am killing demons'. Neighbours who heard the disruption phoned the police to report the incident, shortly after four police officers and an ambulance crew came over to escort him back to his flat, they did no checks on him and decided he was no threat as when they saw his house it was deemed clean and in a good state, they then left him in his flat and left the scene. Even after all of this happening with him shouting outside my mothers house the authorities did not knock on my mothers door to warn her what had been happening outside of her own doorstep, a place where she is supposed to feel safe in herself and knowing that the authorities are doing everything in their power to her safe also. Not giving my mother warning is a total lack of care on the police's part.

The following afternoon Hakim then sharpened a knife and went and knocked on my mothers door, she was unaware of what had been happening the night before and did not know about his mental health problem and proceeded to let him in the house. He then went on the forcefully stab my mother 48 times until he said ' God told him to stop' He then phoned the police and stated to them that he had killed 'The Anti Christ' As police arrived he was in the house next to my mother with the knife in his hand and told the police 'That they should be thanking him as he has dealt with the Anti Christ'.

My mother was 79 years old and very much loved in the local community, as a son I beat myself up day in day out and there is not a day that goes by where I don't relive the incident in my head as I feel I should have been there for her. However we put our trust in the authorities that they are doing everything in their power into doing the right thing for the public which in this incident was the complete opposite of what they did.

After fighting for all of these years I am still no further forward in my case against the authorities, it has been a total white wash and all doors have been closed by the Mental Health insistutue, coroners, NHS and police, I almost feel that I am fighting a losing battle as they are all working in cohesion with each other to cover up the complete mess they made which led to my mothers death. However I can't give up as I don't want families to go through the same pain in which I am going through and the people behind this need to be held responsible.

We have received no help and are being treated as the criminals in this scenario, yet the murderer with mental health problems who came into this country on a false passport and warned the mental institute that he was going to do something unforgivable is receiving all of the care in the world and being treated as this victim in all of this. THIS IS WRONG.

No one is wanting to be held responsible and the authorities keep denying and wrongdoing. They think it is okay however to give me the occasional phone call to let me know that the man who murdered my mother is being let out for lesuirelly strolls to help him get back into a normality of life and to integrate back within the community.

Myself , my family and my friends have suffered and are continuing to suffer until someone is held accountable and everyone involved is brought to justice. All I want is justice for my mother who would still be alive if it wasn't for the lack of care by the authorities and the terrible system that is in place in this country. The authorities are hiding behind The Article 2 (Human Rights to Life) law, the laws are set out to be totally in their favour. They have total control over the law, they told me because Hakim did not mention my mothers name once that they were not to know he was going to kill my mother even though on numerous occasions he gave them my mums address. The whole law is a total grey area and needs a total makeover to protect people like me and you and not just the authorities as they will continue to hide behind these laws into ensuring they are not held responsible.

I want to protect families and publicly scrutinise the people involved so this will not happen to anyone again.

I would like to thank you for your time in reading my story and would appreciate any help I could get into ensuring this does not happen again.

Please find below some links from media outlets at the start of my fight, I will not stop until I have justice for my mother.

Dear His Honour Judge Thornton QC,

I am writing to you to ask for your assistance as I believe there is a serious gap in the current coroner’s law that is denying my family access to justice.

Iam the son of Eleftheria Demetriou who was brutally murdered by Hakim Abdillahi, in August 2012. She was 79-year-old at the time. Mr Abdillahi was a mental health patient with a history of previous violence who had been recently discharged from St Ann’s Psychiatric Hospital in North London, just three weeks before the incident. In court he was described as “acutely psychotic” on the day of the killing.

At every point in the criminal justice proceedings I feel I have been failed as the problems and failings in this case have never had a full hearing and so the true facts have not really come to light.

Mr Abdilahi was clearly very unwell when he killed my mum, but I believe that had he received proper psychiatric care and treatment by those looking after him then her death would certainly have been prevented.

I also believe that had the Metropolitan Police taken his threats more seriously (which were known to them) and warned my mum she was in danger, they too could have done more to prevent her death.

The hearing at the Old Bailey lasted less than an hour and answered none of the questions I had about what had happened and the build up to it.

Since then I have tried in vain to have the inquest re-opened so there can be a full and fair airing of the facts and maybe some of my questions can be addressed, but I have been told by the coroner for Wood Green, Andrew Walker, that because of a lacuna in the law no full inquest can be heard.

I am attaching a transcript of his comments. He says “ I can’t see any provision in the new Act whatsoever that allows me to resume an Inquest that was adjourned for the purpose of criminal proceedings under the old Act” (page 2). He says he has no powers to resume the inquest, which is difficult to understand and to me seems a complete denial of justice.

My question to you is this: is there any way you can see round this clash of old law and new which would allow a full inquest into my mother’s death to be heard?

It seems bizarre and unfair that just because this case began under one law and ends under another that I should be the one to suffer and be denied justice.

I note a similar recent inquest in Manchester (when a man called Michael Kahan was fatally stabbed by a psychiatric patient Jonathan Mills in June 2008) where the case started under old law but the coroner felt able to hold a full hearing under new law.

Equally I understand the threat of immediate danger test is set at a high standard but did not prevent an Inquest in the Kahan case. I believe on examination of all the facts, my mum was also in immediate danger and so too potentially were other members of the public.

I know there is another case going through Mr Walker’s court, which is likely to end in the same decision. Surely when the law changed it was not meant to cause more pain and suffering to already bereaved families? There will surely be other families who are failed by the system because of this apparent gap in the law.

All I am asking for is a fair hearing of the facts surrounding the lead up to my mum’s horrific death. I have seen the mental health trust’s and the metropolitan police reports into my mother’s deaths and I believe they are deeply flawed, and do not answer my questions. I believe that only a proper inquest will do this.

I fear this set of circumstances will be repeated time and time again if public authorities are not held accountable when they get things wrong. Health and police are supposed to care for and protect us: I believe they have both failed my mother.

My heart is broken and I would hate for other families to have to go through this. My health has been affected, my family life damaged, I can’t work... but most of all I have lost my beautiful mother, my best friend, the person who single-handedly raised me, loved me and gave me life. I need for her sake to understand why she had to die and if her death was preventable.

Many thanks for your time and consideration and I look forward to hearing from you.

    Yours sincerely
