Story

Members of Northey Park’s fishing syndicate are raising money to help fellow angler Justin Carter.

On Friday 15 March Justin, who is 45, a family man and has been a carp angler for 30 years, was fish- spotting from a tree at Northey Park’s syndicate lake, Patston’s, when the branch he was standing on broke. He lay unable to move the lower half of his body for two hours, until another member of the syndicate, Lee Bailey, found him. Lee made Justin comfortable as best he could and phoned the fishery owner, Elliott Symak, who alerted the emergency services. Several hours after his fall Justin was airlifted to Addenbrooke’s hospital, where surgeons later operated on his fractured spine. Their diagnosis is a brutal one, in that Justin has broken his back and will not walk again but he is a strong willed chap and is determined to prove them wrong. At the moment his devastated family have a six hour round trip to visit him in hospital and they will obviously have a tough time of it before things get better.

To an outsider, fish spotting whilst high up in a tree must appear a rather unusual practise but is accepted as a way of life amongst the carp fishing fraternity. Hopefully, this insight will be reflected in your generosity via any donation you make.

It only remains for the authors of this appeal to ask you to please think twice before climbing trees round lakes.

Please share this appeal.
