Hi everyone, my name is Jyoti. I have had a vision and hope since many years to empower young girls in India and provide them the support and education to be able to continue learning throughout their menstruating years.

Here in the UK, our society is open and forward thinking to help young girls manage their monthly periods. We have started to see a real turn in schools providing period care and products. I want to bring this care to young girls in my village in India.

At 11 years old, in 1995 I visited India. I started my period and I was handed a dirty rag to use as a pad. I remember washing this and having to re-use it as getting a period pad was near impossible and even seen as embarrassing. I wasn't aware that this dirty rag could cause me to get an infection. This memory will stay with me forever. Growing up and visiting India after these years, I learnt how difficult it was to get period products in schools and places of education. I want to be able to give young girls the power and knowledge to never have to experience this.

Did you know that 71% of school age girls in India do not even know what menstruation is before their first period? Many of these young girls can't afford period products in villages. Up to 23 million girls drop out of school when they begin their periods and the remaining miss up to 5 days of education every month.They use rags, newspaper, hay, ash and old socks as pads. This breaks my heart. Something that they have no control over, they are forced to manage in this way.

My aim is to personally help educate young girls and provide them sanitation facilities and products so that they stay in school and never have to miss a day of learning.

£2 is all it costs for a pack of period pads in India, yet many girls are not able to buy these easily. Please help me start my cause by raising £1000 to provide 500 packs of period pads. This means 500 months of clean and safe period products to helps young girls attend school, no matter what time of the month.
