Story
The fundraiser is targeted at first to 2 primary schools in rural Bungoma County, Kenya this is Kabuchai primary and kisiwa primary, I want to begin here then slowly but surely expand to eventually more than one county NB; Kenya has 47 counties. Basically the money is to purchase and set up a computer lab for pupil access at the 2 schools my target was to begin with 4 schools but there is always room for improvement, the funds will be used to purchase around 24 computers and 20 class chairs and 4 long computer tables with 2 schools in mind double that if we have enough for 4 schools.
If target is reached within 3 months from beginning of fundraiser, i can embark on the project. This fundraiser is important because i aim to provide an equal orpotunity for all when it comes to careers geared towards computer. Early exposure and a good training program will give the children (7-13) years an opportunity that most only have access to if they are lucky to join University.
My observation is that most children in developing countries seem to be at a disadvantage when it comes to fields like coding, and compared to there peers in developed nations, they lack access from an early age. The level of corruption is a hinderance. A case in point is the laptops for children that the current kenyan president promised in 2012, 6 years down the line and no laptops have been provided. Keep in mind that ksh 50 billion or $500 million was set aside for this purpose.
The problem is we rely on government too much, but the truth of the matter is those in government do not have any incentive to ensure implementation of such a project, and in most cases it was just a gimmick to woe voters.
