Story
We are raising money to support the Kai Memorial Cup, all funds raised go towards the Kai Foundation to support disadvantaged children's rugby scholarships and other deserving causes.
The Kai Memorial Cup is a touch rugby event in Nairobi that was set up in 2024 after the death of five-year-old Kai Edwards.
Kai was tragically killed by a driver while riding his bicycle within his own gated community, at home, where he should have been safest.
Kai, a talented and much-loved U7 Nondies Cub, was a beam of energy who loved touch rugby. His playmates weren’t just from his neighbourhood; they were children from across Nairobi’s economic spectrum. On the field, they were simply teammates, a reflection of the community Kai built without even trying.
To honour this spirit, Kai’s family channels their grief into action and "acts of KAIndness". The annual Kai Memorial Cup keeps Kai’s joyful memory alive through sport, and uses that sport to break down barriers.
Funds raised directly sponsor talented, underprivileged children from the very communities Kai played with into reputable rugby development programs, giving them structure, mentorship, and opportunity alongside assisting those who do not have the means towards their development, other sports opportunities and personal needs.
The Kai Memorial Cup is still in its infancy – much like Kai really, when he was cruelly taken away from us. We are evolving and would like to continue making positive impact with the help and support of our valued partners.
