I'm raising £20000 to Help 7-Year-Old Kairo Live Safely at Home With Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy

Story

Hello, thank you for taking the time to read our story.

We are the parents of Kairo, a bright, loving-7-year old living with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) —a rare, progressive muscle wasting condition which gradually takes away the ability to walk, then the ability to move the arms and everything in between. It is also sadly life limiting 😢.

Like every parent, we want our child to feel safe, comfortable, and happy. But DMD means that as Kairo grows, everyday life becomes harder in ways most families never have to think about.

DMD is gradually affecting his strength and mobility. Everyday tasks like getting out of bed, using the bathroom, and washing are becoming increasingly difficult. Our home which once worked perfectly for us, can no longer safely meet Kairo’s changing needs.

Our home isn't accessible. Stairs, narrow spaces, and a standard bathroom setup will soon make daily care not just difficult, but unsafe for Kairo.

We are fundraising to help build an accessible bedroom & wet room, designed specifically to support Kairo now and in the future. This space would allow:

• Safe transfers using specialist equipment

• A level-access shower/adapted facilities

• Comfort, privacy, and dignity

• Reduced risk of injury

• A space that can adapt as Kairo’s needs change

Most importantly, it would allow Kairo to continue living at home, in comfort and safety.

How Your Support Helps

Although we will receive some support, the cost is far more than we can manage alone. Every penny raised will go directly towards:

• Building /construction costs

• Specialist accessibility features/ equipment to make the space safe and future-proof

Every contribution brings us closer to creating a home that truly works for Kairo

Thank you from the bottom of our Hearts

Supporting Kairo means so much to us. You are helping us give him dignity, comfort, and security and giving us peace of mind as parents.

Thank you for your generosity and for being part of our journey. 💙
