Story

14 year old, Kalem Bennett is taking part in the Great North Run (GNR Juniors) on Saturday 8th September 2018 to raise funds for his own racing wheelchair. Currently training with English Athletics coach Steve, Kalem is aspiring to become a Para-Olympian. The specialist racing chair he needs to train and complete effectively, costs in the region of £5000 plus, which Kalem aims to raise by competing in sponsored events, using a loaned racing wheelchair not configured to Kalems requirements.

Born with Spina Bifida, meaning he was paralysed from the waist down, this event will be a huge challenge for Kalem after his recent medical set back in February of this year, when his shunt blocked, resulting in emergency brain surgery. With real determination and a 'can do - will do' attitude, Kalem has defied the odds and bounced back quicker than the medical experts predicted, with the challenge of the GNR firmly in his sights.

Thank you for sponsoring Kalem!
