    Story

Lesvos has seen what I can only describe as humanity on the move. A sight I believe no-one thought they would see in their lifetime again. Children, women and men fleeing for their lives en masse looking for refuge, safety, a helping hand, a place to call home.

They are placed in detention centres, awful places devoid of any legal and moral standards. Places which can treat children as adults and accommodate them with adult men, places where violence is routine and abuse commonplace. People rarely have access to free legal independent advice and remain in a state of uninformed despair and frustration.

I am a legal aid lawyer who has for all of my career devoted myself to helping child victims of trafficking and child refugees. I have now been to Lesvos twice and am going again as a volunteer lawyer in my contribution to uphold the rule of law and assist people in need. Your donation will assist in this.

Funds will also be donated to 2 amazing initiatives on the island. One is a restaurant called Home which has since 2014 collected 20 refugees nightly from the detention centre and provided them with a freshly cooked meal without charge. The second place is called One Happy Family which provides a safe community place for refugees and an impressive level of services such as schooling for adults and children, provision of clothes, food and a library. Sadly recently it was the victim of a burglary in which most schooling equipment was taken. It relies heavily on donated items.

What both these initiatives have in common are they are all encompassing where our commonality outweighs any differences be they religious, racial, physical or legal.

By donating you will be helping children, women and men who are victims of great human rights violations.

    Please give generously.

    With sincere thanks
