Story

Every donation will be put towards the maintenance of the TNR ( Trap, Neuter, Return) programme for outdoor cats on the island of Kalymnos.in association with the Kalymnos Cat Project, who have provided humane traps, over a thousand feral cats have been neutered . We also work closely with The Municipality of Kalymnos and Paws Of Kalymnos ,cooperating to endeavour to bring the overpopulation of cats under control .

Donations go to the costs of neutering, vaccines and veterinary healthcare. While under anesthetic, the cats will have a tiny corner of skin removed from an ear as a safe effective way of identifying them as having already been through the TNR programme. Catching and removing feral cats may temporarily reduce the numbers, but this leads to what is known as the ‘vacuum effect.’ Any cats left behind will continue to breed and others will move into the area which is clearly a good source of food and shelter. The solution is to trap, neuter and return the cats. Over a period of years this will reduce the size of the colony. A controlled, healthy and stable colony will deter other feral cats from moving in and will keep vermin levels down.
