Weʼve raised £1,075 to Help fund emergency accommodation for me whilst my partner is in intensive care after a double lung transplant.

Funded on Tuesday, 20th August 2019

    Story

My partner Rob is 46 and currently in the Critical Care Unit at Papworth Hospital after undergoing a double lung transplant on Good Friday. He has a rare genetic lung condition which has seen him decline rapidly over the last few years, given a prognosis of 2 years left to live last August without a transplant.
He was only placed on the transplant list 2 weeks ago! It was a massive shock to get the call last Thursday to say a match had been found and in a blur we were blue lighted from Scunthorpe to Cambridge forty minutes after that call. To say we were not ready would be an understatement! It's quite rare for a transplant to go ahead on first match and usually there are a number of "false alarms", but all was right and due to the wonderful generosity of a donor and their family Rob has now received the gift of life! I am now on my own at the opposite end of the country and my "bed" for the last 4 nights since is currently the ward day room. Due to the Bank Holiday and the fact that this hospital is due to close down in the next couple of weeks arranging accomodation has proved difficult.
Rob is obviously not a working man currently although he has been all his life before illness and I only work 3 and a half days a week for a charity. We had no contingency in place as it has all happened so quickly. 😓
I would like to remain down here and by his side for as long as I can. The surgeon has said he came through it well. But he has a long way to go.
I have hopefully found accommodation from Monday for £40 per night. I need to be here for him, he is just starting to come round and has not been happy with me leaving his side.
I need to be here to help him through this and to hear his crap jokes once again. Come on Rob lad, love you , you can do this and me and all your family and friends need you ❤😓
Any help would be more than gratefully received and when Rob is fighting fit we will do all we can to thank this wonderful hospital ❤ thanks , Kaz

Thank you all so much for your kindness , it means the world to us. ❤ Rob is heading in the right direction and hopefully getting stronger every day, though he has a way to go. Without all of your help it would not have been possible for me to stay down here in Cambridge. It's an emotional rollercoaster, but you have all helped immensely. ❤❤❤❤
