Story

I started running last year and I definitely caught the bug and keep challenging myself with new distances. I managed to complete my first half marathon by the end of last year. That gave me the obvious challenge of a full marathon this year so I have signed up to the edinburgh marathon on 27 May 2018 just to see if i could run 26.2 miles.

Having completed my long training runs now and feeling a bit anxious and excited, my race number dropped through the post yesterday before I was heading to a charity ball for the Jackson foundation. The foundation has been been set up by an inspiring family to raise money to support families with children with disabilities in Dumfries and Galloway with all the costs most of us would never realise these families struggle with all the time. Watching the families‘ videos at the ball, I felt motivated to try and do something more to help. There was one story of a little girl called Holly‘s story and after watching her family’s video, I was thinking back to my race number arriving earlier that day and I decided I am not going to run the Edinburgh marathon to prove that I can but I am going to run to help get Holly moving.

This link is the video that will keep me running: https://www.facebook.com/CharlotteBriereEdneyITV/videos/189599895002888/

Holly is an identical twin, born prematurely and starved of oxygen at birth. She didnt have the greatest start, or the brightest future. She has a list of medical conditions as long (spastic quadreplegic cerebal palsy, epilepsy, cerebral visual impairment, chronic pancreatic insufficiency to name a few) and is fully dependent 24/7 but is also a little girl who loves frozen and unicorns. Recently she has been loaned a small power chair which has given her a little bit of independence at school, she loves it! Holly’s family‘s aim is to help get her a new chair that she will be able to use at home and in the garden, creating a space in their home, which is currently not suitable for their needs, that will allow Holly to play with her sister while she still can.

The family are continuing their fundraising to buy a new power chair and I would really appreciate if you can support me to get over that finish line at the marathon by thinking about how all my family and friends have sponsored me to help Holly and her family. Any donations would be really appreciated!

Thank you!
