    Story

It is with heavy heart that I have to share that we lost a Trust team-mate last week.

Muhammad Islam worked as a Personal Advisor in the care leaving service, supporting young people leaving the Trust’s care. He had been very poorly and in hospital for the last few weeks, and he died on Thursday.

Muhammad joined Birmingham as a newly qualified social worker in 2010 working with Children in Care , before becoming a Leaving Care PA in 2017.

Muhammad was an active member of the Trust’s Employee Engagement Forum. A reliable participant, always willing to challenge on behalf of his colleagues, he represented effectively, particularly over the issue of caseloads on staff. Muhammad was always fair and reasonable, willing to acknowledge the things that were going well as well as raise a flag about those that were not. When setting up the Trust Muhammad played an important and valuable role, coming to meetings well briefed by his colleagues and representing them very well.

“Always the first to volunteer for a task” and “the last to leave the office” are but some of the tributes colleagues have offered:

    ‘He had a big heart’.

‘He was one of the kindest people I know, and a character’

‘He was an amazing man who impacted everyone he came into contact with’

I know you will all want to join me in conveying our deepest condolences to Muhammad’s wife and family, and to his friends and team-mates in the Trust.

We will remember Muhammad with affection and pride. Birmingham Children’s Trust is poorer for his loss.

Friends and Colleagues from Birmingham Children’s Trust

Mohammad had a great personal story, which exemplified his character :

We are hoping to raise funds to celebrate the life and many good works of Mohammad and give them to Children's Charities / Work which he held dear. Any funds raised will be split between the charities/ Works nominated by the team and his wife.

Please give what you can. Thankyou
