£605 is an odd amount isn't it?

Our church building is almost 170 yrs old, it is Grade 1 listed with beautiful architecture and stained glass windows.

We also have an incredible hidden treasure - our Pipe Organ. It is housed in the organ loft and installed by Hill and Sons of London in 1876. It was described in the Kilmarnock Standard report of 1876 as a 'splendid instrument'. The old hand operated blower was replaced by an electric one around 1929 and the last major refurbishment was 87yrs ago, in 1939 by Hill, Norman and Beard.

The original cost of the organ and it's installation, was £605.

It has been played by many a well-known organist and the sounds and volume it can produce can move even a mountain to tears! A great memory of my childhood is singing in the church choir and feeling the vibrations of the organ through the floors, when it was allowed to roar.

This year, the organ turns 150 years old!

As you can imagine, it has started to slow down to almost stopped and now needs more than a bit of love! I'm raising funds to support the repair and refurbishment of this amazing instrument.

To do this, I will be taking on the challenge -

Hike for Holy Trinity!

On Saturday 12th September, I will be walking from our cathedral, St Mary's Episcopal Cathedral (who are currently in the middle of their own organ journey) in Glasgow, to Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Kilmarnock - a distance of 23miles!
