    Story

I am running the Great Manchester 10k Run on 19/05/19 to raise money for Reach4ward - a non-profit community interest company providing events, training & workshops, based on the principles of achieving social justice. It is situated in Hebden Bridge serving local residents from that area, Mytholmroyd & Luddendenfoot. It's fundamental principles are to provide opportunities for those who are marginalised & vulnerable by way of participation. It's core value is encouraging the redistribution of wealth so that all members of the community have access to opportunity & feel more included in society.

It was set up by a group of local residents who recognised the disparity in access to opportunities for large parts of the community & who recognised that the community has vast wealth in terms of skills & creativity, which wasn't being recognised & shared to benefit everybody.

The organisation has so far delivered a Great Get Together event in June 2018 as part of the national Jo Cox Great Get Together weekend, focussing on reducing isolation & loneliness. This will be delivered again this year, only on a bigger scale in response to the feedback from last year's event. They also delivered an innovative & fully inclusive Xmas day event - The Community Christmas Get Together - providing a Xmas dinner for anyone who would otherwise be on their own on xmas day. This was hugely successful - 130 people were fed & the feedback has been incredible.

As part of their commitment to anti-poverty work, recognising the links between poverty, mental health, substance misuse, loneliness & isolation, they provide group sessions on how to apply for disability benefits. This forms their ethos of creating access to social justice - the redistribution of resources to promote a more equal society.

The organisation & all events are run solely by volunteers who are encouraged to get involved through inclusion by participation. It is run by the community for the community. They rely on grant funding & donations from taking part in events such as these, where every penny raised is donated to the organisation.

Thank you all for supporting me in this challenge! ✌️
