Story
Hello. My name is Sarah. Meet my friend Copstick. She is the passionate director of a charity that works with people living in extreme poverty in Kenya, and, today, someone stole £2500 from her charity.
You might recognise her from kids TV when you were really little. Or you might recognise her from those programmes on Channel 5 that were sort of a bit rude but not really rude. That's not the important bit it's just by way of introduction. And because maybe I can guilt you into reading because she taught you about how to make a spaceship out of sticky backed plastic when you were 3.
That's sort of how I know her. But after that I went to Kenya with her and saw some other stuff she does.
Nowadays she (entirely unpaid) runs Mama Biashara, a charity she set up to help the poorest in Kenya. Mama Biashara ("business mother" in KiSwahilli) provides training and micro-investments for people living in extreme poverty who want to start a business. She has a shop in Shepherd's Bush in London, entirely staffed by volunteers, which sells produce she brings back from Kenya, made by service users, the profits from which go back into the communities that made them.
Copstick does this for free. The shop workers do this for free. The W12 Centre in Shepherd's Bush gives the space for the shop for free.
She's due to go to Kenya on Friday 16th Feb to disburse money earned from the shop.
Today, someone stole £2500 in cash - 5 month's shop income - from the shop.
There is a drought and a doctors strike in Kenya. At any time this would be appalling, but right now, it will cost lives.
Please will you help? Anything at all would be amazing. And you can come to the Mama B shop and get a free hug. Maybe even some sweets.

8 years agoWe have £683 so far. Which is just wonderful and thank you so much to everyone who donated.so far. Been getting calls from the peeps getting excited about me coming and what needs doing (no rain for four months now in many parts). Not sure how to break it to Julius that his community (around 600 people) are unlikely to be getting their well dug. Remind me how karma works again ???

Mama Biashara gives people in the developing world, people with nothing except illness, hunger, homelessness and a family of children who need help that they cannot give a business grant - sometimes as little as £5.00 - to set up a business that will give them a life.
