Story

My mum has never had any breaks and she has all but lost her mobility in recent years. Her world is getting smaller and smaller and it’s heartbreaking seeing her in the house ALL of the time. She used to be very active and was known by most people in our village and she really loved walking her dogs for miles and was always on the beach, winter or summer.

I am the youngest sibling in our little family, I have an older brother and sister who has a son, my nephew, (mum’s grandson) and he is the apple of mum’s eye. She is a young “Ganny” (my nephew calls her this) and she would do anything for any of us. There is no denying how much she loves us all, very much indeed!

Mum has single handedly brought us up, and has done her very best by us. She puts our daily needs before hers; her needs are the bottom of her priorities. She has struggled her way through an abusive marriage, which has made her the strong woman she is today! She also lost her mum (my granny) at the age of 30, losing one of her best friends, and misses her every second of every day.

Due to this, mum turned to alcohol as a crutch, but she has now been sober for TEN years! This has unfortunately left her with chronic pain caused by peripheralneuroperathy (intense pain in her hands and feet) and because she has had 5 epidurals in her lifetime (2 for operations, 3 for us kids) her lower back is very weak which leaves her unable to walk 20 feet at a time, leaving her no alternative but to sit down people’s garden walls, benches and greenery, rain or shine. This leaves her in intense pain and takes her breath away. She can no longer go anywhere without planning where to sit first leaving her world limited and small. We are lucky enough to live in a village with 2 beaches, which she hasn’t been able to visit in years.

Mum has a golden retriever called Gwynnie, which she adores. She finds it devastating that she is completely unable to walk her and she wants nothing more than to have the opportunity to train her alongside a mobility scooter, venturing on great walks together.

Mum dreams of having a mobility scooter to open her world again. It would be lifechanging for her, making every day practicalities achieveable, whether just popping to the shop, going to the beach, visiting friends or even not getting a wet bum trying to get somewhere in wet weather!

Please dig deep and share with your friends, as this will mean so so so much to our mum ♥️
